Tips and
Techniques for Leaders and Facilitators.
Good
leaders or facilitators do all they can to avoid exerting personal
power. They provide direction, guidance, focus, and perspective
without dominating. Like coaches, they focus the group on a common
goal, keep members involved and motivated, and call forth the best
efforts of each participant.
For the most part,
e-coach
has found that effective leaders and facilitators:
- Set the stage for a productive meeting by preparing a meeting
agenda and distributing it in advance.
-
Make sure that everyone knows the
purpose of the meeting and will be prepared.
-
Encourage and support participation by
all members.
-
Keep the discussion focused on the
issues.
-
Encourage the exchange of information
and ideas and discourage the clash of personalities.
-
Guide the group in handling any
conflict openly and constructively.
-
Bring proper closure to the meeting.
